Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Property Accountant to manage the financial reporting and accounting activities for a portfolio of commercial and/or residential properties. This role is responsible for preparing financial statements, performing account reconciliations, managing month-end close processes, and ensuring the accuracy of property-level financial records. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting skills, experience in real estate or property management, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. 75-85k DOE
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for assigned properties.
- Perform month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Reconcile bank accounts, tenant receivables, security deposits, and general ledger accounts.
- Review and post Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable transactions as needed.
- Prepare and maintain CAM (Common Area Maintenance), operating expense reconciliations, and tenant billings.
- Monitor property budgets and assist with variance analysis and forecasting.
- Ensure lease terms are accurately reflected in accounting records and financial reporting.
- Support annual budgeting processes and year-end audits.
- Coordinate with property managers, asset managers, vendors, and tenants regarding accounting-related matters.
- Maintain compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Assist with tax reporting and financial reporting requests from ownership groups and lenders.
- Identify process improvements and support special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in property, real estate, or commercial real estate accounting.
- Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial reporting functions.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Preferred
- Experience with property management/accounting software such as Yardi, MRI, RealPage, AppFolio, or Entrata.
- Experience with commercial real estate accounting.
- Multi-property portfolio experience.
